Why ZIP codes matter in freight
Every freight quote starts with two ZIP codes. The origin and destination ZIPs tell a carrier the lane, the distance, and which terminals will handle the shipment, and those drive the rate and the transit time.
A ZIP code also flags the details that change the price: a residential or limited-access address, a remote area outside a carrier’s direct service, or a delivery that needs a liftgate. Confirming the city and county before you book helps avoid a surprise accessorial charge.
- Routing and transit time: the ZIPs set the lane and the terminals along it.
- Shipping cost: distance and the carrier’s coverage of each ZIP shape the rate.
- Service coverage: some ZIPs fall outside a carrier’s direct area and carry extra charges.

Have both ZIP codes?
That is most of a quote. Add the weight, the dimensions or pallet count, and what you are shipping, and our team will price it.
